Birmingham City

Blogger Introduction

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all well. My names Sharan and I started my little blog Sweet Reflection about 2 months ago. I love to write about beauty, lifestyle and miscellaneous little things.

I’ve always loved to read and write so I don’t know why it took me so long to realise blogging could be something I love.

Why I chose to write about Birmingham…

I have chosen Birmingham, also known as the second city because of all the hidden gems. You will of heard of all The Bullring and The Mailbox (maybe?) but how about that little Alice in Wonderland inspired cocktail bar on the side street or how about the quirky little shops in The Custard Factory (this is actually in Digbeth, about 10 minutes outside central Birmingham).

5 things to see and do in Birmingham

Depending on what your in the mood for…9 times out of 10 you will find it in Birmingham.

Bullring Bull

Number 1 on the tourist guide of Birmingham is to take a selfie/picture with our beautiful bull. Located outside the The Bullring Shopping Centre. You will find all kinds of shops inside and outside here. From affordable everyday to high end expensive stores.

Afternoon Tea at The Edgbaston

Afternoon Tea is a big trend at the moment, and I most definitely recommend The Edgbaston. This is a boutique hotel, and on the outside its not a lot to look at. However inside is a beautiful little setting. The afternoon tea includes beautiful food and drinks, and an Instagram dream because of the set up and the presentation of the drinks.

Library of Birmingham

Library of Birmingham….you’re reading this like is this girl actually telling me to go to a library! I kid you not it is worth seeing. It has recently had a makeover and has been made into a beautiful sight. It’s a perfect setting for working and writing but also just worth a walk around to say you’ve seen it.

Live Music

Live music! Pretty much every weekend, somewhere in this beautiful city you can catch a show of live music. Not forgetting the Barclaycard Arena which has hosted some of the top performers, so if you happen to be here check out what’s going on in the world of performances. I promise you will not be disappointed.

The Cube

Finally my favourite….The Cube. Not only does it look great but it holds a whole host of amazing restaurants and bars. As well as an amazing spa and hotel! The Cube connects directly with The Mailbox.

The ideal night for me starts at Aluna Cocktail bar for pre-drinks with some flare, onto dinner at Marco Piere’s or Miller & Carter for a classic steak dinner and to end my night up to the roof of The Cube for either champagne at the beautiful champagne bar or maybe a whisky based cocktail and the newly opened Haig Whisky Bar. Another great Instagram op!

Sharan Recommendation for Food & Drink in Birmingham

I’m not saying this is a fact but Birmingham is definitely a foodie’s dream city. As well as the standard Nando’s, Frankie and Benny’s and so on there are so many beautiful little eating spots.

If your looking for quirky coffee and cake or lunch try Cherry Red’s. Honestly I went here with a couple of friends and I am now in love. Aside for the astethically pleasing cake display, the food is amazing. If you go, please try the chunky chips…they are something else.

If your looking for dinner, take your choice. If you want casual try Turtle Bay or anywhere in The Mailbox. If your looking for date settings, my favourite is The High Field. It’s a gastro pub, don’t get me wrong its not dim lights and candles but the food is amazing. The atmosphere is light which for me creates the perfect date. If all is going well pop across the road for cocktails at The Edgbasoton…remember I mentioned this earlier….if you don’t get the chance to do afternoon tea definitely go for cocktails. Not only do the drinks taste amazing but the presentation is a show in itself.

Cadbury World

For all chocolate lovers you have to check this out. From seeing how the chocolate is made and the history of chocolate to shots of chocolate and a Cadbury’s souvenir shop that would be Willy Wonka jealous.

Sealife Centre

If you’re travelling with the kiddies be sure to check this beaut aquarium out. You can spend a few hours here and then walk right outside and find a restaurant of your choice for dinner or lunch.

Broad Street

If you want to go clubbing…look no further than broad street. You have bars and clubs, you’ll also find music ranging from current dance to throwback classic 90s pop!
