Welcome back to my Christmas Blogger Q&A series. The series is running from 1st December right up to the big day. Today we welcome Ellie from Ellie Bows and Sparkles.
Ellie Bows and Sparkles
Hello there lovelies! My name is Ellie and as you can most likely tell I’m an Ellie with an eye for a bit of sparkle and a bow on top in pretty much all things in life! Inspired by old-school beauty blogging and YouTube, my blog – over at https://elliebowsandsparkles.blogspot.com/ – was born in the August of 2014, stemming from a long routed passion of borrowing my nan’s and mum’s lippies, dressing up on all appropriate occasions as a fairy princess and a feisty desire to battle and tame my longstanding and fairly prominent acne. Though not a fashion degree holder, nor a culinary baker I’ve an eye of excitement for seasonal trends and all things sweet and delicious, meaning I adore sharing all thing fashion, beauty, food and makeup that just make my heart sparkle. Including little slices of life that leave my heart that little bit sparkly too! Simply I just love to share all the things I love.
Christmas leaves my heart forever feeling more than a little sparkly, with many happy family memories, so I am most excited to share below what makes my festive times exciting for me, with you!
1) Where do you spend Christmas Day and what do you usually do?
Christmas has always been traditionally spent at my or my nan and grandad’s home, alternating each year. We crack off the day semi-early (early mornings are not our family forte) with the excited “has Santa been!?” exclamation between me and my mum on entering the living room. I’m 20 and this is still a well-practiced tradition. Accompanying some very grateful present opening, my mum always cooks us the most show stopping cooked breakfast, with Christmas film or the Kardashian’s Christmas special as pre-recorded by mum (mum knows us well) playing in the background. Following has always been my mum or nan’s mad – but magical may I certainly add! – Christmas cooking, whilst I perform a personal GRWM for the festive day. I like to wear one of my favourite party dresses each year. We then eat, celebrate and munch on sweet things, with lots of chats, giggles and Christmas TV until the day is out. Now I’m older my grandparents have sadly passed away and my mum works more Christmas days now so sometimes I spend some of the day on my own. Since meeting a special person in my life though I have also spent some very memorable and very happy Christmas’ with my boyfriend too in latter years.
2) Do you have any traditions which your family have or you have started?
Although in latter years we haven’t always had the chance to do this, my mum has always read The Night Before Christmas too me on Christmas Eve night from my very sentimental book she gifted to me as a little girl. Prior to the big day though, a massive tradition we still absolutely cannot contain ourselves for is to play the Disney Christmas cassette in the car on every possible journey! And yes, we bought a separate little radio so we could just keep playing that very same cassette! Again, I’ve had this since I was little and I just could not envision the lead up to Christmas without it! Lastly, a new tradition that my mum has instilled is checking NORAD Santa Tracker every day in December and we each try and have a play of the daily game. Then on Christmas Eve we track Santa flying across the earth and squeal as he gets closer to the UK and dash to bed before he reaches us 😉 . Oh and I can’t forget the Christmas 24 log fire! There’s always excitement for that! Christmas 24 aficionados you know what I mean 😊.
3) Which Christmas character would you like to be and why?
My goodness this is a tricky one! I think it’s hard because I’d want to be something that meant I could still be with my family because I love our Christmas festivities! I’m going to go with what first came to mind and say Arthur Christmas. I’m definitely just as clumsy as him, I love a good pair of slippers and I’d love to make everyone’s Christmas wishes come true!
4) If you were able to invite 3 famous figures (past or present) to Christmas dinner, who would you invite and why?
Controversial it may be but I really would love to invite Zoe Sugg, as I would have loved to have said many years previously too! I’d want to have a good catch up with her first and get to know what’s flipping flopping going on, haha. But I just feel, irrespective of other things that have happened as of previous, we share so many similar family traditions and excitement for the little things in life and all things festive! Oh goodness who else can we invite now for some good festivities, haha. Right bending the rules I may be a bit but she’s got a YouTube channel so I’m classing it as perfectly okay! Barbie, you’ve been with me at five and now I’m 20 you’re still with me on YouTube. I forever loved Barbie and I think she’s a wonderful girl on her YouTube channel (yes, I have watched it, forgive me I’m young at heart). And yes, I am partial to an episode or two of Barbie dream house so I just think we’d get a long merrily! And lastly, bending the rules a little again, I’d pick Mia Thermopolis from The Princess Diaries. Again, the similarities are just alike I feel, clumsiness and frizzy hair especially! I think the three of us would have a very jolly time!
5) If you could spend Christmas anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Honestly, it wouldn’t truly be Christmas for me if it wasn’t at home. And if I could be really picky, I’d ask either to relive a Christmas from when I was younger and both my grandparents were here or to have one more Christmas with my mum off, my nan and grandad back for a day and all our pets back too (Melon, Mona, Poppy, Ella, Tasha and Ziggy of course too!).
6) Tell us your best Christmas cracker joke…
“What did one snowman say to the other?…….. Can you smell carrots?”
7 ) In the past I have asked about your favourite song & movie, this year I’m asking, what is your favourite Christmas TV Special?
Definitely Gavin and Stacey Christmas special, The Vicar of Dibley Christmas special andddd The Royal Family Christmas specials! I once remember laughing so much at The Royal Family Christmas special I fell off the sofa; honestly you are missing out if you don’t know what I mean by “put the turkey in the bath”, haha.
8) Do you own any Christmas Jumpers, and do you have any favourites?
Why of course 😊! I have a really lovely, cosy, traditional M&S men’s Christmas jumper that says ‘Merry Christmas’. Vintage and super cosy makes it my ultimate favourite! And I also have a really ‘me’ one that I got last year that’s pink and says ‘Jinglebella’ in sparkly red writing 😊.
9) Do you usually hit the shops or do your shopping online?
Every year it has to be hit the shops but hit the shops for the whole experience. Me and my mum usually designate a day to our Christmas shopping trip and do absolutely everything. From perusing the Christmas market, to a festive lunch, admiring the John Lewis and M&S Christmas sections and topped off with a festive treat and seasonal hot drink! Mostly we purchase our presents online though as it’s just that little bit easier for some things and a lot of little independent businesses I love are online too!
10) Where is your favourite place to visit on the run up to Christmas?
Now early on in the festive season me and my mum love to take what has become our little annual Christmas trip to Starbucks. Because I have a Starbucks card I can usually get the Christmas drinks early and my most favourite thing is treating her to her absolute favourite, the eggnog latte. We also have the best catch up when we go. It’s just the epitome of cosy! Closer to the big day though I’d say I love visiting Liverpool. Every year Liverpool just goes all out on their Christmas festivities, making a little village, fun fair, Christmas markets, the ice rink! I went to see the tree lighting last year too and that was something very magical! There’s just something about Liverpool that’s so exciting yet so homely to me and I’ve made many a happy festive memory Christmas shopping with my mum.
What have you got coming up on your blog in 2019?
