Welcome back to my Christmas Blogger Q&A series. The series is running from 1st December right up to the big day. Today we welcome Rachael from Lukeosaurus and Me.
Lukeosaurus and Me
Hi, my name is Rachael and I’m a maker of boys – Luke (5) and Oscar, who was born in July 2018. My blog is about the parenting journey between me and my boyfriend, Mikey – step dad to Luke and Daddy to Oscar. I talk about family life, like days out and children’s activities, as well as mental health, family budgets, fashion and other lifestyle topics. Basically, my blog is my third baby and I write about my life…!
1) Where do you spend Christmas Day and what do you usually do?
Usually I spend Christmas with family – either mine or my boyfriend’s. Last Christmas I was pregnant with Oscar and suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum so we had our Christmas at home. This year we’ll be spending it at home again and visiting family on Boxing Day. Our day starts really early, thanks to my excited five year old and things usually start to wind down around 8pm. The entire day is pretty full on: opening presents, watching Christmas films, going for a Christmas Day walk and, of course, eating the amazing Christmas Dinner that my boyfriend cooks!
2) Do you have any traditions which your family have or you have started?
Obviously putting up the Christmas tree and decorating is a big family affair. It needs to be done with Christmas songs in the background and a Christmas Costa Coffee on hand! This year I want to start two new traditions: Christmas Eve Boxes and Elf On The Shelf!
3) Which Christmas character would you like to be and why?
I’d love to be Buddy The Elf! He is just so happy and stress-free all the time…as a mum of two, that sounds heavenly.
4) If you were able to invite 3 famous figures (past or present) to Christmas dinner, who would you invite and why?
Stephen Fry – just think of the amazing dinner time conversation! Plus I reckon if he had one or two too many mulled wines he’d spill the beans on a lot of funny celebrity moments.
Giovanna Fletcher – she seems like the kindest and most approachable ‘celebrity’ on the planet. She doesn’t seem to have lost her head as she rose to fame and comes across as a humble woman with lots of interesting things to say. Plus I mean, if the kids came with her, that would be amazing too!
Prince Harry – because why not, hey? He gets on so well with children, I love watching moments on the news with him interacting with the younger generation; it’s really heartwarming. So I think he’d be great to have around with the boys. I also think that even though he’s a prince and now he’s expecting his own baby, he is incredibly humble and has stayed true to himself – he oozes kindness and that is what the world needs, more kindness.
5) If you could spend Christmas anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
So this may sound pretty boring, but I love spending Christmas at home. I live a really short drive away from some beautiful countryside which looks absolutely stunning in the Christmas light. I love being able to spend the entire day lounging around in our brand new Christmas PJs and watching Harry Potter films. To me, Christmas is about being super cosy 100% of the time, and nowhere beats being at home. That’s not to say that my boyfriend and I haven’t discussed having a sunny Christmas one day.
6) Tell us your best Christmas cracker joke…
My favourite one is: What’s the most popular Christmas wine? ‘I don’t like Brussels sprouts!’
It’s true…who does like them?!
7 ) In the past I have asked about your favourite song & movie, this year I’m asking, what is your favourite Christmas TV Special?
It’s an oldie but goldie: the Gavin And Stacey Christmas Special! You just can’t beat it. However, for something that’s a bit more recent I really enjoy the Dr Who Christmas specials.
8) Do you own any Christmas Jumpers, and do you have any favourites?
I don’t have a Christmas jumper, but of course, this year I’m going all out on the jumper and PJ front. I’m going to try and convince my boyfriend that we should all get matching pyjamas…he doesn’t seem so keen, but I think I’ll crack him eventually. My boyfriend won his work’s Christmas jumper competition a few years back with his elf jumper – it had jingle bells on it!
9) Do you usually hit the shops or do your shopping online?
A bit of both. It’s definitely a lot easier to buy things online…often cheaper too. But nothing gets you in the mood for Christmas like walking around the shops and seeing all the decorations and singing along to the Christmas music.
10) Where is your favourite place to visit on the run up to Christmas?
This may be bizarre, but I really like visiting Garden Centres on the run up to Christmas! I love how they turn this huge part of the building into a massive Christmas Grotto! It’s so much fun, there aren’t loads of queues to line up in and to the kids, it’s almost like a nice day out and 100% free (unless you get conned into buying early Christmas presents…which I usually do!)
What have you been proud of in 2018?
I’ve slowly started to take over social media channels for one of my dad’s businesses: Beautiful Wood UK. I’d love to get it noticed a bit more and help him make some extra money, as well as expanding my skills as a blogger and freelance writer. For me personally, however, I am really proud of how my photography has come on and I’d love to maybe start a regular guest post series. I’ve a few ideas that I think people will be interested in, so we will have to see what 2019 brings.
